The
Town of Sidney is ideally situated close major arrival
points to South Vancouver Island. BC Ferries provides year-round
service to and from Swartz Bay which is only a few minutes car ride
north of Sidney. Sidney is also the departure point for pleasure
craft sailings and ferry traffic heading to the San Juan Islands
(US) and Washington State. By Air, visitors arrive at Victoria International
Airport, which by car is only 5 minutes away.
The
Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre is located just south of the Port Sidney
Marina at 9811 Seaport Place.

Road
Turn left at the foot of Beacon Street [the main street in Sidney]
Ferry walk on passengers typically reach the ferry terminal
exit in Swartz Bay approximately 1 & ¾ hr. after departure
from Tsawwassen. Bus #70 Departs Swartz Bay every ½ hr during
the summer time and every hour on the hour the rest of the year.
This typically is a double decker. It is
12 minute ride to Beacon & Fifth Street in Sidney. The
SODC is 4 blocks east on Seaport Place
BC Transit Bus Tickets: the cost is $2.age 15 and up & $1.40 age 5-12;
This ferry is within
walking distance of the SODC.
During
the Summer there are two sailings departing Anacortes about
7am and 2pm and arriving in Sidney about 10am and 5pm. During the
off season there is only one sailing departing Anacortes about 8am and
arriving in Sidney about
11am. Ferries depart Sidney about an hour after arrival.
These are international sailings and preboarding time is needed to clear
customs.
